Bay area has been soaking in heavy rains past one week, which is much awaited and wanted. With this soak we officially are out of drought danger. Watching the rain fall is a beautiful sight, cozing up with a comfy comforter and doing nothing is just an priceless moment.
Split pea soup is a comfort soup ,satisfies your soul and warms up your body like no other, a perfect compliment to the current weather. With all the veggies added this is a chunky and a very hearty and healthy soup.
All the ingredients for today's soup were brought from the farmers market ,shopping in farmers market with rain pouring like cats and dogs is a different experience and a sure Kodak moment for me.
Ingredients ( this makes for about 6-8 cups)
2 cups split peas (green vatana) soaked over night and pressure cooked till tender
2 big garlic chopped roughly
1/2 cup leeks chopped finely
1 onion chopped into cubes
1/2 cup green onions
1/2 cup of carrot cut into fine cubes
1/2 cup potatoes cut into small cubes
2 tbsp fresh ground black pepper
salt according to taste
1 tbsp curry powder
Process
1. In a big soup pot add a tbsp of butter and a tbsp of olive oil add garlic and onion.
2. saute till onion turns a little brown , add leeks, G.onion, carrot, potato.
3. Add about a cup of water and allow the vegetables to cook( I use the water from cooked peas)
4. Add boiled split peas, salt, curry powder and pepper and allow to boil for 5 minutes.
5. Use a blender and blend the soup into a chunky consistency.
Serve hot with a slice of french bread/garlic toast. Top with green onions.Sending this entry to Susan of Well Seasoned Cook for her My Legume Love Affair

looks yummy..thanks for sharing
Sreelu, this looks lovely. What kind of curry powder would you use in this? Americans and Brits typically use a very tame curry, but I suspect yours is something more potent and divine.
Thanks for your great recipe!
The pics are amazing! The first was a classic shot!
Lovely soup.
Recently I've been using split green vatana a lot. Really like the diffrent nuttiness.
I definitely going to try this soup.
Never had curried pea soup. I love 'regular' pea soup when it's made well so I imagine that this must be really good.
Thanks everyone for the comments.
Susan, any curry powder do, I general use home made. Just use in moderation and it will taste just great.
Your soup sounds delicious! The photo is really beautiful, too :). I'd like to feature your recipe on our blog, please let me know if you're interested :).
